Department’s Achivements

Four NPRP-11 grants awarded to CSE!

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has announced the winners of the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) funding

program in its 11

th

cycle, and four projects led by the computer scicenve and engineering (CSE) department at Qatar Univeristy

were awarded. The projects are led by Dr. Khaled Shaban, Dr. Tamer Elsayed, Dr. Somaya Al-Maadeed, and Dr. Abdelaziz

Bouras.

Dr. Khaled’s project is titled “Optimized and Secured Demand Response Using Smart Meters and Blockchain for the Qatari Grid”,

and is in collaboration with Dr. Hazem Hajj, Dr. Rabih Jabr, and Dr. Wassim El-Hajj from American University of Beirut, Lebanon,

Dr. Ramadan ElShatshat, and Dr. Ayman El-Hag from University of Waterloo, Canada; and Dr. Ahmed Massoud from Qatar

University. Dr. Tamer’s project is titled “Early Detection of Fake News over Arabic Social Media“ and is in collaboration with Dr.

Walid Magdy from University of Edinburgh and Dr. Abdulaziz Alali from Qatar University. Dr. Somaya’s project is titled “Detection

of covert communications in untrusted channels”, and is in collaboration with Prof. Ahmed Bouridane from Northumbria

University, UK. Dr. Abdelaziz’ project is titled “Designing an Efficient Smart Contract based Blockchain System from Multi-modal

Supply Chain Systems”, and is in collaboration with Prof. Ibrahim Khalil, from RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology),

and Prof. Belaïd Aouni and Prof Ali Jaoua from Qatar Univesity. We are very proud of our faculty members!

QNRF provides research funding opportunities in the academic, public, and private sectors through various funding programs

targeting specific research groups. The programs cover basic disciplines emphasized through Qatar National Research

Strategy (QNRS): energy and environment, computer science and information and communications technology, health and

social sciences, and the arts and humanities.
