Message of the Head of Department
Somaya Al-maadeed, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department
It is my pleasure to introduce the fifth edition of the magazine from the Computer Science and
Engineering Department (CSE) at Qatar University: CSE CONNECT. This year, the department has had
another exceptionally productive year across the research, teaching, and service domains that comprise
our mission. The distinguished research of the department has conducted with awards "best work" in
international conferences. Our senior students made a real change in the public by their innovation works
that solves real problems such as Biometric Security that led to winning Dell EMC competition. CSE
Department Committed to implement high quality educational and training opportunities for students. At
the Undergraduate level, the total number of registered students at CSE Department increased within
the last year. The percent of increase was even higher among the Qatari students.
The department goals this year is to improve the teaching by using active learning and technologies to
enhance the learning process. Research funding for CSE Department from QU, QNRF, and industry has
grown in recent years. Therefore, researches grows to address national research challenges. In Qatar and worldwide, there is a
huge demand for research in computing across many disciplines, computing has pushing the envelope of nearly all other research
and studies
.
Nowadays, CSE has four research groups: Network and distributed systems, Software engineering and information
security, Data Science, Visual computing and robotics.
A long-term vision of the Department and Qatar University is to be among the top academic institutions in the field of Computing
and related areas. From this standpoint, the CSE Department is doing its best in research, education and community service. It is
a pleasure to be among the best 132 global universities in Computer Science according to US news. Furthermore, Qatar University
in the field of Computer Science, is recently ranked among the top 250 world universities in computer science subject according
to Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking 2019.
