In her introductive talk, Dr. Somaya Al-Maadeed, Head of CSE
Department, stressed the need for collaboration with industry and
external organizations in nowadays students’ multidisciplinary IT
projects. She also highlighted the added value of industry based learning
and the industrial experience for the students. Dr. Abdelaziz Bouras
introduced the Pro- Skima project and the collaborative education
model. This was followed by a brainstorming session where a detailed
list of industry requirements was further discussed and refined by the
alumni. A roundtable discussion followed with the alumni and industry
guests notably Mr. Malike Bouaoud, a cybersecurity expert from Qatar
Foundation and Mr. Howard Charles Nolan, VP of IT Strategy-
Governance-Innovation at Qatar Airways. The discussion revolved
around the collaborative co-op model proposed by the Pro-SKIMA
project and its potential application CSE curricula (Cybersecurity
collaborative education was taken as an example). At the end of the
workshop, the alumni were handed a survey to elicit their opinion about
the suggested collaborative approach, based on their education and work
experience.
The insights gained from the workshop were valuable in the visit
to QAPCO that was organized afterward by Dr. Abdelaziz Bouras and
Dr. Mahmoud Abdulwahed from the Office of the President, and
attended by a CSE and TIEE delegation. The potential collaboration
between the company and Qatar University on the implementation of
the collaborative program were discussed and a proposal from CSE is
currently under preparation.
