“Machine Learning 101”: Learning How Machines Can Learn
In February 2019, Dr. Tamer Elsayed, an associate professor at the CSE Department, has given a workshop titled “Machine
Learning 101” to the students of Electrical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering. The workshop was given on two
sessions, each in 90 minutes, and meant to give an introduction to the very basic concepts of machine learning to those who have
no background in the field, and to motivate them to learn more about it. Moreover, the workshop gave online examples of machine
learning applications, and pointed the attendees to several resources that can help explore the field that became very hot recently.
The workshop was sponsored by QU IEEE Student Branch and was attended by more than 50 female students in addition to some
researchers and faculty members. The slides and the two video sessions are available on the
workshop page .
