The Continuing Education O ce o ers a variety of
programs and training courses designed to ful l the
needs of the Qatar community Training courses are
o ered to all community members in a number of
disciplines such as language, business, leadership,
management, nance, accounting and information
processing. Training courses for IELTS, TOEFL iBT and ACT
are also o ered
Language courses include Arabic for non–native
speakers, General English, and Business English.
Arabic for non-native speakers
Arabic for non-native speakers is o ered at basic,
intermediate and advanced levels.
The basic and intermediate-level courses are designed to
provide learners with an introduction to reading Arabic
alphabets and short text and simple news, listening to
and interacting in conversations and exchanges, and
writing essential sentences about daily life. The
advanced-level course is designed to enhance learners’
uency, accuracy and con dence in the written language,
and improve their communication skills.
General English
This is o ered at Level 1, 2, 3 and 4. A placement test is
required for learners in all levels except Level 1 which is
an integrated-skills course that gives instruction at
pre-intermediate level. It reviews the important basic
structural areas students are expected to have met and
studied in high schools. The four skills (listening,
speaking, writing, and reading) are emphasized in this
level. In Level 2, learners are expected to employ
skimming and scanning techniques in reading, to
determine the meaning of new words in context and to
approach reading texts in English in an holistic way.
In Level 3, emphasis is given to accuracy in the
production and understanding of clear English, but
highlights more complex structures and materials.
