industrial technicians, and nuclear medicine
professionals new to environmental radiation or
needing a broad understanding of the subject.
This intensive ve-day Foundation-level course
covers the structure of matters, radioactivity and
radiation, radiation units, biological e ects of
radiation, and natural and man-made radiation.
Corrosion Measurements: Designed for
engineers, chemists and metallurgists in all
industries as well as for professionals who need
to refresh and update their information
regarding corrosion measurements and
mitigation. This 5-day intensive course will cover
the application and combination of several
electrochemical techniques to measure, study
and mitigate the di erent forms of corrosion.
The course includes lectures and labs so that
attendees can practice the concepts and
techniques discussed in the lectures.
Center for Advanced Materials (CAM)
The work of the Center for Advanced Materials
comes under QU’s O ce of the Vice President for
Research. Since its inception in 2002, CAM has
been providing excellence in the eld of material
technologies. With well-equipped laboratories
and experienced expertise, the Center o ers
assistance to local oil, gas and processing
industries as well as the learning community in
Qatar.
The mission of the Center is to enhance and
support interdisciplinary research on materials
science and engineering by conducting applied
research projects and providing knowledge and
experience that meet the needs of industry and
society.
Continuing education courses o ered by CAM
include:
• Gas Turbine Basics
• Heat Treatment of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous
Metals
• Environmental Radiation
• Corrosion Measurements
Gas Turbine Basics:
Designed for any employee of power generation,
petrochemical and aviation, including operators,
supervisors, engineers and technicians, who may
need more basic knowledge about gas turbines.
This is a basic course that covers a general
overview of main parts of gas turbine, types and
applications of industrial gas turbines and
principle of operation of gas turbines.
Heat Treatment of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous
Metals:
Practice-oriented and relevant to heat treatment
specialists and general metallurgical engineers
or metallurgists involved with the heat
treatment of steeland aluminium alloys. On
completion of the course, participants will be
able to understand the fundamentals of, and
optimize the heat treatment processes used in,
the steel and aluminum industries; solve
process/product problems in the manufacturing
steel industry; and design and implement proper
heat treatment processes.
Environmental Radiation:
Designed for environmental studies employees,
